Sometimes specialist help is exactly right, and it should be easy to find. But passing someone on is not the same as standing beside them. Use this alongside everything else, not instead of it.
Referring someone elsewhere is one form of help among many. Keep checking in afterwards — that is usually the part that carries them.

- Community counselling on a sliding scale
- Peer support groups that meet in person
Crisis support
- 24-hour listening lines in your country
- Text-based support services
- Urgent local services when someone is unsafe

- Council housing options teams
- Homelessness prevention charities
- Deposit and rent-arrears schemes
Employment support
- Job clubs and retraining grants
- Sector mentoring schemes
- Benefits and entitlements checks
Money and practical costs
- Crowdfunding (e.g. GoFundMe) when the pressure is a specific cost — one option among many, not the default
- Emergency grants from charities and local funds
- Food banks, community fridges and hardship schemes
